RocPK’s 2 Year Anniversary

For those of you who remember, RocPK was a completely different place when we opened almost exactly two years ago. We had only a couple boxes, maybe 800 sqft of rubber flooring, some equipment, and no real admin system. We’ve learned a lot in the last two years and I’m extremely proud of where this community has gone.

From the recent numbers, RocPK serves over 100 families and members. Just last month, our old monthly visits record of 406 got broken by over 50 – totaling to 462 visits in March! We’ve expanded our classes, built new and updated our old equipment, and are in the process of continuing the build out to further create the most unique gym in Rochester and Western New York!

None of this would have been possible with out the strong community members that we have. It is you and your presence that makes this place so great. RocPK is a community and those who patron it are not customers, but friends. Everyone should feel like RocPK is their own.

This month we will be making it even easier to join the community. Firstly, all first time drop-in classes are free – not just the free first timers class on Sundays, but any class that a new person joins, is free. Second, any new membership is half-off this month. That means new people, current students who wish to upgrade from class cards to their first membership, or a basic member who would like to upgrade to an unlimited membership.

You may redeem these promotions on our MindBody site using these codes:

  • 2yeardropin – Free first drop-in class
  • 2yearhalfoff – half off any new membership purchase

In addition, Saturday the 13th we will be hosting a gathering at RocPK complete with a grill and food for the usual community jam. Registration for this event is up on the MindBody site and is free. Food will be $5 per plate.

Thanks for all the support these past few years. Here’s to many, many more!

Sincerely,

Charles Moreland
Executive Director

RocPK’s Spring Gorilla Gauntlet 2013

Like ninja warrior? Then you’ll love RocPK’s Gorilla Gauntlet!

This Saturday, we’ll be setting up the gym to run three unique obstacle courses that will challenge your speed, endurance, strength, and determination. We run several of these a year and this will be the first one for the 2013 year! There’s a bunch of new stuff in the gym and we’re excited to see what we set up.

This event is FREE to watch. Participants must be 16+ and must register on the MindBody site before Saturday. Cost is $10.

Check out this old video from a competition we ran over a year ago! (I can’t believe the gym used to look like that…)

See you there!

Snowball Fight 2013 a Success!

Every year we try to host a large community snowball fight in Manhattan Square Park. Last year wasn’t so good snow-wise, but we’ve been getting spoiled this year! Big thanks to everyone who came out and participated. Check out this cool video of Nicole storming the enemy fort and capturing the flag single-handed!

Holiday LivingSocial!

Welcome to Rochester Parkour! This post will serve as a FAQ and a guide to assist you.

First off, Rochester Parkour, or RocPK, has been teaching in the Rochester area since 2007! We’ve helped thousands improve their balance, coordination, and learn how to have fun again by utilizing play. We’re sure we can help you too!

Have no idea what parkour is? Our Director just recently gave a TED talk on the subject! Be sure to watch it and also read up in our about page found here.

Here are a few Frequently Asked Questions?

Is parkour safe?

Yes, parkour is one of the safest activities you can try. Through slow, progressive challenge, you will expand your abilities more than you ever dreamed possible and you are the sole decider in how fast you improve. Our instructors are some of the best around and through parkour, you will find you will become more balanced and coordinated than ever. Many of our students explain how they feel safer when playing other sports because of their parkour training!

Is parkour hard?

Yes and no. Parkour is training your body through progressive challenge. You won’t be jumping off walls (in fact we rarely do) your first day, but you will be pushing hard learning how to crawl, vault, balance, and climb.

I’m nervous I won’t be good right away

No problem! Parkour is not any single action – it’s a mentality about constantly improving. There is no “good” in parkour and no one will be judging your abilities. In fact, many of our first time student are shocked at the positive atmosphere we have in the gym and the community.

How do I contact you? Where are you located?

The gym is located at 121 Lincoln Avenue. Our email address is info@rochesterparkour.com and our phone number is 585.204.7537.

UPDATE – Barbarian Workshop Postponed

UPDATE – Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen circumstances (and the barbarians getting a baller workshop gig in Moscow), we’ll be postponing the workshop until January 2013. Information and registration will open up again in late December.

Mark your calendars – The elite bodyweight strength group from NYC, the Bar-barians, will be coming to teach two unique workshops at the Rochester Parkour gym on October 27th.

The Bar-barians are a team of elite bodyweight specialists, founded on the goal of achieving physical perfection while providing the ability to motivate, inspire, train and treat our members and guests with respect and professionalism. Bar-barians was founded in 2004, in Brooklyn, New York.

These workshops will be beneficial to anyone looking to progress their bodyweight strength abilities – either just starting out or working on advanced level techniques.

The first workshop runs from 2-3:30pm with the second running from 4:30-6pm. Each workshop is $55 or $90 to attend both.

Both workshops are limited to 25 participants so reserve your slot early. Head over to our registration site to sign up.
