Community Mural Painting!

Starting tomorrow and continuing into March, RocPK will be undergoing some much needed refurbishments. One of the main points of interest is some fresh paint on the walls! Nicole Suchy has been working hard and has created a new program called Make Your MARC – Mural Arts in the Rochester Community. Her program will be paying for us to put up a super amazing mural on one of our walls. This will be a community event! We want you to come and make your own mark on the RocPK walls. Here are the dates:

Optional Events:

  • Thursday March 1st 5:30-8:30pm – Grid and begin to draw design on the wall
  • Friday March 2nd 3-7pm – Finish drawing design on wall

Big Community Event!

  • Saturday March 3rd 2-6pm– Awesome community paint-by-numbers mural, painting of the surrounding walls and I-beams

Optional days before the March 3rd community event are days when Nicole will be working and outside help isn’t required, but very much appreciated! We want everyone to at least make it out to the March 3rd event – parkour breaks are encouraged and there will be food and drinks!

Ninja Warrior Feb 18th

image

It’s that time again – the time where you polish all your new moves and abilities and pit them against the clock to become a champion!

We believe strongly in these timed competitions as they are the true test of your capabilities. You may be able to do some pretty sweet stuff, but can you do them when it really matters? When time is racing? When your heart is racing?

February 18th is the day! 2pm to 5pm.

We’ve got some fun new stuff in the gym and we’re pretty excited about the course.

This event is donation based and is limited to 17+. If you’re an older teen that wants to participate, please send us an email at info@rochesterparkour.com or talk to us in the gym.

Low-Impact Classes

Parkour for the Elderly – Part 1 from Charles Moreland on Vimeo.

Last year, RocPK Director Charles Moreland made this video with our eldest member, Mauro. After spending a year going to Saturday jams in Rochester’s Manhattan Square Park, Mauro greatly improved his mobility and physicality. At 62, he can knock out full range squats and perfect sets of pushups with the rest of us.

Not all parkour is explosive or high-impact. We believe strongly in movement exploration and much of our focus is of the low-impact variety.

The Rochester Parkour gym is now offering low-impact classes, designed for participants with mobility issues or an aversion to explosive movement. This class will focus on balance and coordination drills, slow progression of strength, and will incorporate a unique blend of dance and martial art influence.

This class is open to all
Wednesday Evenings 7-8pm
Cost: $15

New York City – The Gym Park

Parkour is expanding and growing all the time and while physical spaces are difficult to come by, they too are becoming more popular.

If you find yourself in NYC with some extra time, head on over to the Gym Park and join a session with some of NYC’s finest traceurs. It appears to be all gymnastics equipment which makes for an incredibly fun and springy environment. Check out the video below!

Great work guys!

Pricing Changes for September

To all members,

Please take a look at the pricing changes effective for September. Notable changes include:

– 5 Paid in Full classes have been adjusted to $70 instead of $60. We have done this to allow for the logical incentive to move towards monthly memberships which is in the bullet point below

– We now have membership packages and pricing structures for 2x per week and 1x per week. Monthly memberships take precedence over paid in full, and thus, the 1x per week package has taken place of the $60 paid in full package.

– Monthly memberships include open gym times as well as special events. Special events include: Competitions, discounted workshops, special classes, or community events like pot lucks and other gatherings.

– Memberships are charged monthly in the first week of every month. If you would like to sign up in the middle of the month, please see Charles at the gym for information.

We apologize for any confusion this may cause. Please be patient while we attempt to offer and bundle the services you ask for.

Calendar Changes for August

Students and Members,

Please take some time to look over the new class schedule effective August 1st. There are some major changes that must be addressed:

1. The Kids class has now been separated into two classes – Kids and Teens. The kid class is designed for ages 5-10. Teen class is for ages 13-17. The 3 year difference is to allow some spill over for kids who are either more mature for their age or have a strong grasp of the material and need to be accelerated.

2. The Gym is now closed on Tuesday nights.

3. There is a new Family Class! We’ve seen some crazy interest from families looking to learn parkour together! This class in particular is subject to change until we find two times that works well for all our members. Please send us your availability by emailing info@rochesterparkour.com

4. Invitation only classes for teacher instruction are now being added. If you’re looking to help out and teach, please email charles@rochesterparkour.com.

5. Pricing has also been updated.

Thank you all for making Rochester Parkour a wonderful place to train and grow!
